DESTINATION DIARIES: Forest Lagoon, Iceland

On our September adventure through Iceland, my husband and I checked off our second lagoon experience with a stop at Forest Lagoon in Akureyri.

🌲What is Forest Lagoon?

Nestled in a lush forest overlooking Eyjafjorour Fjord, Forest Lagoon is one of Iceland's newer geothermal spas, opening in 2022.  Unlike the more famous Sky Lagoon or Blue Lagoon, this spot feels more tucked away, blending nature and wellness.  The design is modern yet warm, with infinity-edge pools that look straight out over the water and mountains.

We really liked this lagoon - the views were stunning, and the atmosphere was different from Sky Lagoon in Reykjavik.  There's something extra relaxing about being surrounded by tall trees and that deep fjord backdrop.  The swim-up bar didn't hurt either 😜. (They did tell me to come back on NY's Eve, they said watching the fireworks in the lagoon over the trees is spectacular!! - I'll think about it!)

That said, we did notice it had more of a family-friendly vibe.  There were quite a few kids splashing around during our visit, which made it feel a little less serene compared to the adults-only atmosphere of Sky Lagoon.  Don't get me wrong, it's still gorgeous - just know it may not be as quiet and spa-like as Sky.

And hey - if you're curious about this lagoon (or want the inside scoop on which spa to hit first), don't hesitate to reach out to me.  We've soaked, sipped, and scoped it out so you don't have to.

Have you visited Forest Lagoon or another Icelandic lagoon? Which one was your favorite?
