If you're a novice when it comes to cruising, don't worry— here's a mantra I live by: opt for a window or balcony cabin. Yes, inside cabins often present as the most economical choice, but allow me to share some insights...
Booking an inside cabin implies no windows, no natural light, and a detachment from the outside world. While this may be perfectly tolerable for some, for new cruisers, the potential feeling of confinement might trigger unexpected stress or discomfort.
Having a window instills a sense of space and connection with your surrounding ambience. A balcony, though, gives you that extra spark — the soothing breeze, the enchanting view, and the rhythmic lullaby of the ocean's soundtrack.
Speaking from personal experience, I'm an ocean enthusiast. The meditative mornings, watching the rhythmic dance of the waves with a cup of coffee on the balcony is a magical pull. The unbelievable charm of arriving or departing from a port from the comfort of your private space—robed in your pajamas, not vying for a spot in the public lounges—is a moment to cherish. The tranquil lullaby of the waves at night will lull you into the best sleep of your life.
The balcony experience becomes exceptionally worthwhile when cruising through scenic routes such as Alaska and Europe. Witnessing the majestic glaciers, historical castles, or tranquil coastal towns glide past right from your balcony? That's an incomparable dream.
Once you've discovered the charm of cruising, that's when an inside cabin might appeal. Over time, I've stayed in many. Some are surprisingly spacious while others are snugly comforting. An added bonus? My son loved them for the pitch-dark serenity, perfect to catch up on late sleep (typical teenagers, right?). Plus, opting for a less expensive cabin means more budget for shore excursions, specialty dining, or indulging in the drink package.
For your first cruise, my advice is give yourself the upgrade. The view, the fresh ocean air, the complete cruising experience—it’s all part of fostering your love for cruising.
